A Study on the Serum Gastrin Levels Before and After Uemodialysis in the Patients with Chronic Renal Failure

Abstract
Serum gastrin levels before and after hemodialysis were measured by radioimmunoassay in 17 patients with chronic renal failure and compared with those in 10 healthy controls.
The results were as follows.
1. The fasting serum gastrin levels in patients with chronic renal failure were significantly higher than in normal controls(p<0.001). This suggest that kidney plays roles in gastrin metabolism.
2. Serum gastrin levels in patients receiving hemodialysis were significantly lower after hemodialysis than before hemodialysis, indicating that gastrin can be removed by hemodialysis.
